Lynn Ross, Designer
With a passion for artistry and organization, I have been dreaming up original designs since I was a girl. Born to a mother who sewed exquisite custom draperies from her farmhouse sewing room, and a father who handcrafted everything from a mahogany cabin cruiser to a log home, resourceful design is in my blood. For me, childhood was consumed with imaginative creations like building Lego homes, sewing clothes -- first for my dolls and then for me, and dreaming up entire neighborhood plans and drawing them on huge sheets of paper from newspaper end-rolls spread across the floor.
I first began dabbling in interior design during my penny-pinching college years when I transformed an unfinished basement space into a cozy apartment by draping yards of muslin across the ceiling joists and hanging vintage curtain fabric to form walls. A colorful quilt found at a clearance sale became a slipcover for my grandmother’s hand-me-down 1960’s sofa. Recycled Thomasville side tables and antique lamps warmed and brightened the space. A beautiful oriental rug tied it all together. The result was budget-friendly and beautifully satisfying. I was hooked.
Over the years, that same creative energy led me to develop my design skills in many areas: sewing custom window treatments and decorative pillows, hand-painting original wall murals, refinishing good-bones furniture pieces, planning landscape designs, and helping others to improve their living spaces by ideally arranging furnishings and updating paint colors and décor.
My husband of 25 years, Dan Ross, is a construction engineer and licensed builder. When we married, my knowledge of building methods and materials vastly expanded as together we completed many projects for ourselves and others. Our creative partnership could be aptly defined as, ‘She conceives it. He constructs it.’ In 2013, we purchased a rural wooded lot and a lifelong dream became reality when we designed and built our ideal family home. That custom home turned out to be the launching pad for what would become my full-time shelter design business.
Today, I get to l live out my creative passion by designing new custom homes, additions and renovations for a variety of clients. With a varied background, including a degree in psychology and work in graphic design, I place a high priority on helping each client create their ideal space. Ingenuity and a keen attention for detail are applied to every job I do. Dan lends his expertise in building codes and structural requirements to ensure that every space that I plan is practical and feasible. Ultimately, by marrying the pretty and the practical, I help my clients achieve the perfect spaces for the unique way they live and work.
