Empty Nest Upgrade

interior & exterior renovation plus addition

The owners of this canal front home were ready for a space tailored to their new chapter as empty nesters. Having undergone many small additions over the years, the home suffered from inefficient flow and irregular roof lines. At the top of the priority list for the renovation were a home office, comfortable master suite, and generous open living space with views of the water out the back. We accomplished the client’s goals by gutting the main portion of the home and placing two separate additions . A defined front entry — which was lacking before — was placed on an angle to create an inviting approach from the driveway. The new home office was designed for easy conversion to a bedroom down the road if needed. A new combined mudroom/laundry room features a dog wash for quick clean-up after long walks with their pup. A fireplace in the new dining space was added to bring warmth and character, and floating wood beams help to define the functional divisions of the open floor plan. Finally, a covered patio provides a shaded sitting area to watch boats go by and ideal spot for the owners’ hot tub.
