Built on rural farmland, this home was designed to be powerhouse of well used space. A single-story layout featuring living space on the lower level provided the clients and their young children with a compact footprint that feels big on space yet offered uncompromised practicality and function. By adding a generous number of windows across the back of the home, the interior is flooded with natural light, making it feel open and airy. Raised ceilings in the main living spaces make the rooms feel spacious, while floating beams under the cathedral ceiling in the living provide a feeling of warmth and character. Off of the living room, we placed a clever office nook hidden behind a beautiful sliding barn door. The laundry room and a bathroom with shower were positioned for easy access from the outside in order to keep dirt from being carried through the house. The basement level features additional bedrooms, a bathroom, accessory spaces, and storage. By placing the home’s foundation high enough to allow for daylight windows, this lower level has an uncompromised feeling of brightness and welcoming flow.
